WSU Bowl Eligible After 49-37 Win Over Utah

CougfansWSU becomes bowl eligible after beating Utah 49-37 in a much needed conference win. As usual, Connor Halliday had a big game. He was 36 of 62 with 488 yards and no interceptions. WSU took the lead early going up 21-0 in the first quarter with Williams catching the first TD pass. The “Halliday” was on 4 TD passes. Coug fans celebrated the win by rushing the field after the game.

WSU Gets Win 24-17 at Arizona

On theWSU Zona road, after several conferences losses, WSU pulls out a last minuet upset of Arizona to win 24-17 in the desert. Connor Halliday QB returns to form, throwing 39-53 and 319 yards, including a 25 yard game winning strike to Isiah Myers for the go-ahead. TD.

WSU’s bowl hopes still alive as they need at least one win at Utah or UW to make them bowl eligible.

Cougars Spooked By Sun Devils In 55-21 Halloween Loss

WSU HalloweenTurns out that playing with the Devil(s) on Halloween is not a good idea as the Cougars are unmasked in a 55-21 loss. Arizona State spooked the Cougars early by jumping out to a 42-14 lead in the first half. All tricks and no treats 2 quarters later left the Cougars questioning whether their bowl hopes were over. WSU’s Halliday threw for over 300 yards to no avail as Cougs fans were left cold on this Halloween night.

WSU losses 62-38 to Oregon

Halliday sets records in losing effort

In what appeared to be a go-for-broke game, Conner Halliday threw for 58-89 passes, 557 yards, and 4 interceptions as WSU lost to Oregon 62-38. While breaking the FBS Drew Brees record for attempts, Halliday also set the new PAC-12 total passing yards. Coug fans were not celebrating and neither was Halliday in a game that was close 27-21 (Oregon) only to be blown out in the second half.

The (4-4, 1-3) Cougs now head home to Pullman for an interesting Halloween game with Arizona State.

Beavers Chew up the Cougs 52-24 Loss

WSU4WSU (4-3, 2-2) started the game well only to watch  OSU’s Sean Mannion light up the Cougs for 4 touchdowns & 493 yards passing in the 52-24 loss. The game started well for WSU as they drove down the field on the opening drive and Furney kicked a field goal to put 3 on the board. OSU came right back and added 3 to close the first quarter in a 3-3 tie. OSU came back in the second quarter to close out the the half 17-10 over WSU before heading the the locker room at the half.

The Cougars came out in the 3rd quarter fired up and scored two touchdowns to take a 24-17 lead. That lead was short-lived as WSU self destructing in the 4th quarter with Conner Halliday throwing 3 interceptions in a stunning turnaround. OSU quickly took advantage with the Beavers scoring 3- TD’s in a space of 3 minutes in the 52-24 loss. The Cougs must recover quickly as they head to Oregon next week.

WSU Wins Big in the California Sun 44-22

WSU QB Connor Halliday throws for 521 yards and 3-touchdowns to beat Cal 44-22 in one of his most productive games. Cougs jumped on Cal going up 14-0 in Halliday thowingthe 1st quarter with Cal finally coming back in the second with 13 points. WSU picked up another TD and walked into the locker room at the half up 21-13.

The Cougs came out in the second half feeling good in the California sun continued their scoring ways.  WSU tacked on another 14 points in the 3rd to go up 35-20 over Cal in what was turning out to be one of their best games of season. In the 4th quarter, WSU continued their domination of Cal by added another 9 points to their total. WSU closed out the game with a big 44-22 win while also ending a 8-game losing streak to Cal.

Cougs Blown Out by Stanford 55-17

WSU logoCoug fans were hopeful after a good early season start, including a close game by Auburn. Turns out this was a throw away game, one that so many bad things happened, a coach just tosses it out and starts preparing the team for the next game. Up next, Cal on the road as the 3-2 (0-1Conference) Cougs regroup!

WSU Shuts Out Idaho 42-0 and Has Fans Talking Bowl Games

WSU16A lose looking Connor Halliday, (QB) arrived at Martin Stadium flashing deuces to excited Cougar fans. Perhaps an early victory sign as Washington State went on to shut out the University of Idaho 42-0 in a game that left the Cougs sitting at 3-1 early in its season.

Halliday was off to an early start hitting Gabe Marks for a quick TD strike in the first quarter. The Cougar offense was just warming up as Halliday hit receivers Don Williams, Vince Mayle, and Gabe Marks for 3 additional second quarter touchdowns. WSU went into to the half leading 28-0 with Idaho looking for answers.

WSU4In the second half, the Cougars went to the ground with RB Jeremiah Laufassa rushing for a 3rd quarter TD and then another TD in the 4th to put the Cougs up 42-0. WSU closed out the game with a 4-down goal stand against Idaho that left both WSU and Idaho head coaches exchanging F-You’s in a bizarre meeting after the game.

Washington State 3-1- heads to Seattle next week to take on Stanford at Century Link stadium in its annual home/away game. While Stanford is an early 10-point favorite, the Cougs are confident in their underdog status and their ability to beat the Cardinal.

WSU rolls Southern Utah 48-10

WSU10Riding high after beating (25) USC in a defensive battle the previous week, WSU finally “let the good times roll” defeating Southern Utah (FSC)  in a sun drenched Martin Stadium 44-10.

WSU QB Connor Halliday teamed up with his posse of receivers and threw for 383 yards and five touchdowns showcasing Coach Leach’s high-octane Air-Raid in front of the celebrating Cougar Fans. While there was not really any question that the Cougs would win this game, it was the first time both offense and defense finally played well in a game in the Mike Leach era.

WSU beer ong The WSU defense, not content to sit on the sidelines and watch the Cougar offensive show, joined the party with 3 interceptions and a sack of  Southern Utah QB Cantu in the game. One of the most thrilling for fans was Damante Horton’s 73 yard TD run putting the cougs up 28-10 at the half.  With the party started both inside and outside the stadium, the Cougs never looked back.

The Cougar Defense held Utah scoreless in the second half. At the same time, the WSU offensive continued to roll with Furney kicking in a pair of Field Goals and Halliday hitting Gabe Marks and Vince Mayle for TD’s in the 3rd and 4th quarters to beat Southern Utah 48-10.

WSU Plays Big- Upsets USC 10-7 in Defensive Battle

WSU1Washington State arrived in LA to play (25) USC with a ton of confidence after nearly knocking off Aubun the previous week. The un-ranked Cougars played USC in the Coliseum in both team’s conference opener and as the PAC12 featured game of the week.

In a game that most thought would be an offensive shootout, both teams defensive units slugged thoughout the game. WSU’s only TD in game came in the 2nd quarter on a Damante Horton 70-yrd. Cougar kicker and NFL candidate Andrew Furney sealed the game with 3:40 left in the 4th quarter by kicking another clutch field goal to put the WSU up 10-7.

With close loss to Auburn and the win against USC, WSU2the Washington State Cougars put the PAC12 on notice that the Coach Leach era had finally began. WSU players celebrated their first win in the Coliseum in dozens of years but spoke with quiet confidence in post game interviews about how their off-season work was finally paying off. The Cougars schedule gets a bit easier with games against Southern Utah and Idaho up next on their schedule.
